How Does RESTYLANE Work?
Restylane adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane can also add fullness and definition to lips in patients over 21 years, providing natural-looking and lasting results with just one treatment.
Restylane works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid. So, you can use Restylane to visibly reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, and to add fullness to your lips.
Treatment volume should be limited to 6.0 mL in wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and limited to 1.5 mL per lip (Restylane only), as greater amounts significantly increase moderate and severe injection site reactions. If a volume of more than 3 mL total is needed to achieve optimal correction for lip enhancement, a follow-up treatment session is recommended.
Biocompatible with the human body, Restylane is eventually broken down naturally.
What results can you expect?
The results are immediate and very natural looking. There is little or no down time and most people return to their normal daily activities right after their visit.
How many treatments do you need?
Restylane-L lasts up to one year. A touch-up approximately one month after the initial treatment may be required to achieve optimal results.
How much time is required?
The initial injections usually require one hour. The injection of multiple syringes or the application of a local anesthetic may increase this to ninety minutes. Follow-up visits for touch ups are usually thirty minutes or less. We can provide a more precise time estimate after examining you and discussing the amount of correction you desire.
Things you should know
As with any injection, you may experience mild irritation, swelling, itching, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. Restylane-L contains lidocaine, an anesthetic that makes the procedure more comfortable. Additional topical or local anesthetic may be administered for comfort and the cost is included in the treatment price.
How does Perlane work?
Just like Restylane, Perlane adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
Like Restylane, Perlane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to add volume like your body’s own hyaluronic acid.
What makes Perlane different is the average size of the particles and the depth of injection. On average, the gel particles in Perlane are larger than those in Restylane, which makes Perlane a good choice for wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin.
In three clinical studies of 150 patients each, on average 70% of patients maintained improvement for six months after just one Perlane treatment.
